Call to Action

Surviving amidst the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to an increase in gender-based violence. Our Call to Action this month asks you to financially support the Walker family from Camden, NJ. Earlier this month, their home was targeted and destroyed. They lost everything. Their story and the link to donate is below. We ask that you support them in moving from surviving to thriving and healing.

Call to Action – Episode 11

As Takia and Abbey released this episode, the Justice system failed to hold white supremacists accountable for their violent actions. The severity of white supremacist violence in our country is ever-present and cannot be undermined.

Our Call to Action this month asks our listeners to support the work of Families for Justice as Healing, an organization dedicated to ending incarceration of women and girls in Massachusetts. Families for Justice as Healing supports families who are torn apart by incarceration, and belongs to the larger The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls. We ask you to learn about and support their work.

Call to Action – Episode 9

In this episode, Takia addresses how PUSHOUT is impacting Black, Latinx, and marginalized gender students in schools across America. Takia and Abbey discuss how schools must be critiquing their practices, and districts need to begin tracking this issue in their local school systems. PUSHOUT is the use and overuse of violent and punitive actions towards Black, Latinx, and marginalized gender students. We invite our listeners to learn about and donate to the organizations listed on the PUSHOUT website. AND OR visit the Black Girl Freedom Fund (1billion4blackgirls.org) to learn about #1Billion4BlackGirls campaign which is working to raise 1 billion dollars for Black girls by 2030. You can also Donate to the Black Girl Freedom Fund <– here. Thank you listeners!

Call to Action – Episode 8

As we release this month’s episode, we are aware of multiple crises taking place in the global community. We believe that the mindset of capitalism and imperialism, undergirded by white supremacist, patriarchal ideological assumptions, contribute to the persistent disposability experienced by marginalized populations. We encourage our listeners to apply a critical race theoretical lens to processing the conflicts taking place. What contextual history contributed to the conditions of these crises? How does racism & white supremacy contribute to who will receive support and who will not? Do you recognize patterns of colonial hegemony creating instability and chaos?

Reflecting on the reality of our world must also prompt our action. We are focusing our action this month in support of Haiti. On August 14, a seismic, 7.2, earthquake struck Haiti. We ask our listeners to donate to Fonkoze, a Haitian led organization, which empowers families and is providing necessary resources right now.

Call to Action – Episode 7

A recent post by Antiracism Daily details how essential it is to confront the weaponizing of white woman tears. As we discuss in our podcast, the behavior utilized by white women to subjugate, violate, and threaten, is actively happening and must be stopped. Anti-Racism Daily is a daily newsletter and educational resource for folks looking to deepen their commitment to dismantling white supremacy culture. We invite our listeners to continue engaging in reflection that prompts the necessary discomfort required to unlearn. To take action, we encourage our listeners to not only read the post, but also support Anti-Racism Daily here.

Call to Action – Episode 6

Our episode this month discusses patriarchy, misogyny, and misogynoir, -isms that create harmful realities and structural barriers especially for black trans women. The structural realities of white body supremacy culture are represented concretely in our unjust justice system. We invite you to contribute to the Philadelphia Community Bail Fund which gives funds directly to folks who are incarcerated and cannot pay bail. The Philadelphia Community Bail Fund works to specifically support Black mothers, #freeblackmamas, which is why we support their work. We are releasing Episode 6 two days before Juneteenth, financial payment to Black people is absolutely essential. Please $upport the Philadelphia Community Bail Fund, and follow their instagram @phillybailout [linktree for more community efforts is in their instagram bio.]

Call to Action – Episode 5

We ask our listeners and supporters to learn about and advocate against the violation of human rights occurring in Palestine toward Palestinians by Israeli military forces. The Israeli military, funded by American tax dollars, is actively engaging in settler colonialism through coordinating the forcible removal of Palestinian people and families from their homes, and communities. Thousands of lives have been lost to the violence of genocide, and our work unites in the struggle for liberation for our Palestinian comrades. Two actions have been introduced in the U.S. Congress and Senate which call for the withdrawal of US support for the Israeli military and the active support for the Palestinian people. We ask that you reach out to your Congressperson and Senators to raise awareness of these actions, and ask them to join in stopping these violations of human and civil rights.

Call the U.S. Senate & House of Representatives here: (202) 224-3121

1- Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders introduced a Resolution in the House and Senate respectively, blocking the sale of arms to Israeli military forces by the United States. Links to the resolutions are below. The resolution speaks about a 735 million dollar arms sale approved by the Biden administration on May 5, 2021. While the 15 day review period for Congress ended, when speaking to your representative, refer to the resolution as precedent for critiquing arms sales to Israel.

2- H.R. 2407 was introduced by Congresswoman Betty McCollum in April 2019. H.R. 2407 calls for an end to abusive Israeli detention practices of Palestinian children. More about the bill, including the representatives who have co-signed, can be found at the links below. Call your representative and ask that they sign on to support H.R. 2407.

Call to Action – Episode 1

We are releasing this podcast and launching our website on Inauguration day. At this moment, Washington, D.C. is heavily occupied by military and law enforcement. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic including the summer of 2020, activists and organizers on the frontlines in Washington, D.C. have been working tirelessly to support Black Indigenous People of Color community members. They have also been persistent in coordinating immediate protest actions. Now, the same organizers are contending with direct white supremacist violence. Our call to action for today is simple: $upport the organizers in DC holding it down by $upporting any of the following mutual aid funds.
