About Us

“Sometimes, I am identified as a civil rights leader or a human rights activist. I would also like to be thought of as a complex, three-dimensional, flesh-and-blood human being with a rich storehouse of experiences, much like everyone else, yet unique in my own way, much like everyone else.”

~ CORETTA SCOTT KING
Takia M. (She/They Series)

Takia {Tak} is an unapologetically Black femme living her life to its fullest capacity with authenticity. She is a BADASS, lover of firearms and safety, single mom to a fully moisturized Black teenage son, and anti-colonial narrative therapist whose work centers the experiences of Black Womxn, girls, non-binary, and gender nonconforming folx. They are an army combat veteran, a hoodrat aficionado, and they are explicit about rejecting the white and male gaze, white heterosexual male privilege (WHMP) PERIODT, and respectability politics; especially as it relates to the policing and constriction of Black feminine presenting human beings. You can catch her virtually social distancing and wearing a mask throughout the RACISM+COVID-19 pandemic, eating hot pickles, and minding the business that pays them, in her free time!

Tak’s signature SW in BW mantra is: “GURL/Sib, get your rest TODAY… them people & problems will be there to address in the mornin.”

Tak’s go-to self-care strategies are savoring fine cuisine, creating random colorful artwork, and applying uniquely scented hand & body care products.

Abbey D. {She series}

Abaigeal {Abbey} is working on being an anti-oppressive social worker in a white, cis-gender, able-bodied body in 2021. She enjoys writing, reading books, arranging flowers, swimming, and walking in nature. Abaigeal graduated with an MSW in May of 2020 and believes that white people (and social workers!) need to work on their racial identity development every day. A textbook Aquarius, Abaigeal thrives with clear, constructive feedback, structure, and anything that exposes the insidiousness of white body supremacy culture– in these conversations, she is most interested. Listeners, please share your feedback!

Abbey’s signature SW in BW mantra is: “Hey white people, this is bullshit and it isn’t working for you either.”

Abbey’s go-to self-care strategies are a glass of water, dark chocolate, and a walk outside.
